It sure was a cold day to start my rehabilitation back into running this past Saturday morning! The Wilson County Road Runners held their inaugural group run at 8:00 am in the 39 degree, rainy weather and I figured it would be a great kick off to my return to running.

Despite the cold being one of my favorite running weathers, not many people showed up. I suppose it sounded much nicer to stay snuggled under the warm, dry blankets than to lace up and head out for a run. They always say the hardest step is the first one out of the door.

Luckily, there were a few who chose to brave the elements, and I enjoyed being able to socialize for my two miles. Plus, the weather gave me a great excuse to break out some gear I had from Germany, where it is regularly cold and wet (at least where we lived).

Overall, we had a great time out there in the misty cold and I can’t wait until the next group run. Hopefully we’ll have more participants and I can get a few more miles in!

What’s your favorite cold weather running gear?
